The Spiritual Procrastinator’s Guide to following your Intuition

lazy cat

We’ve all found ourselves here. You’ve started Meditation or Yoga as a way to help you cope with stress and suddenly you’ve activated parts of your brain that have been dormant for years. You suddenly start getting insights and ideas with a certain urgency behind them. Some people call it “Divine Guidance” Or “Spiritual Downloads”. Myself for example received advice to get more solid on climbing and take a class at the local rock gym. Completely random and seemingly unhelpful. I’m already active and go on hikes all the time. How could I possibly need to add this skill to my already intense bond with nature and physical fitness?

As an avid Yogi and Meditation Practitioner I’m no stranger to these random blurbs of advice seemingly linked to nothing important. When I first began I received a message to start hula hooping. Being new and exited by the idea of spiritual insight I Immediately purchased a fitness hoop, started obsessively watching youtube videos and attending workshops whenever I could. Because of my quick obedience to this message from my higher self I’ve made some truly wonderful friends and taken trips that have been crucial in my understanding of self.

Something more difficult was recently when I was told to leave my former place of employment. In the beginning I truly loved my job and had no other way to really support myself financially, so naturally I wrote this off as me just having a long day and maybe just keep an eye out for other postings casually. The longer I ignored my intuition the more punishment I experienced in my everyday life. Signs like my car mysteriously stopping on the way to work and the mechanic declaring that everything seemed to be working fine, a growing rift with my fiance’, a robbery, and eventually I developed type 1 diabetes which wouldn’t allow me to work under the conditions I was dealt with. Soon I realized that the things I was holding on to weren’t real and that I had more to lose by sticking it out, than by taking a leap of faith and submitting my notice.

Sure enough once I took that leap of faith everything completely lined up. We closed on our new house, the perfect job that I didn’t even know I wanted offered me the perfect salary, our relationship improved, our financial situation improved, everything happened because I finally took action on what I knew to be true. It didn’t seem like the right thing to do, but it’s important to remember that we don’t know everything. That’s what our intuition is for. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get ready to climb.

Oracle card of the week 4/23

If you look at the state of the world according to the news you’ll find yourself feeling afraid and unsafe. We’re facing unrest like we’ve never seen since the civil rights revolution. People are threatening, people are unkind and even dangerous for reasons that they feel are completely justified. The Devine urges us to look at things from a different perspective though. In order to truly be at peace and be well, we have to understand what the opposite looks like. Trust in things bigger than you and bigger than the situation at hand that everything is working in perfect order according to perfect, universal order. You are safe, you are loved.

Happiness vs. Fun. Don’t get it twisted.

In life we often feel we’re unhappy. It’s an empty sensation we try endlessly to fill with euphoria, rushes of adrenaline and wild nights at the bar. What I’ve finally learned is that the experience I was chasing was not the same thing as the sustainable lifestyle of true happiness. How often have we confused the intensity of fun with the peacefulness of happiness? Below I’ve listed my findings on telling the difference.

Fun is in the moment, happiness is your way of living.

Fun happens to you, happiness must be created, nurtured and cultivated.

Fun turns your brain off, Happiness is engaged.

Fun is an explosion, Happiness is a  cozy, crackling fire.

Fun is temporary, happiness is forever.

Fun is what you do, happiness is who you are.

We don’t need ecstasy to be happy. We just need to open our eyes to the small joys all around us every day.

Oracle card of the week 4/16

The two cards that have popped up encourage us to look for positive sybchronicities in our love life through a stronger bond with nature. This being the season of resurrection the soil is fertile for planting seeds of deep meaningful relationships. Whether you’re looking for love or looking to continuously improve your current relationships, all that it may take is a trip to your favorite forest or   park. I’m hearing that the use of energy stones like jasper are amplified with the current season. Get out there with an open heart!

The Purpose of Chaos: Full moon with Venus, Mercury and Saturn in Retrograde

Full Moon

With the intense planetary arrangements currently in full swing you may be overwhelmed by “minor hiccups” in your current routine. The computer crashes, the pipes are leaking, the text message won’t send or other little mini attacks on productivity.

Yesterday morning I found myself late to work because I couldn’t find my car keys. As frustrating as it was the sun was shining, the grass was green, the air was soft and warm. This gave me a moment to lay on the grass and really be present. The disruption of my everyday routine was giving me the gift of peace and of stillness.

Don’t fret as the day becomes incredibly inconvenient. Often times chaos serves as a detour from something much worse. Instead of cursing the heavens, use these road blocks to pause and enjoy.

Baby steps and spilled coffee

I made my morning coffee today in a French press. As I pushed down the plunger it began to overflow covering my kitchen counters with the dark liquid and grounds. I realized that I had a choice at this moment to either become angry that another meaningless task had been added to my already long to do list, or I could just wipe down the counter and poor myself a cup of coffee. I chose the second option, and as small and insignificant as this may seem, it’s a huge step towards my goal of a peaceful life.

In life we’re facing lots of little battles every day. By choosing to be understanding of our own mistakes and the mistakes of others we can win.

The power of being Kind in an unkind world.

When they offer you their poison, you don’t have to drink it. You have no obligation to be the savior of the cruel, but you can do something to help them. The fact that they have chosen you to spew their hatred towards means there is something about you that they admire. When we’re in pain it can provide temporary relief to force our burden on someone that appears to have strong shoulders. Use your strong shoulders to toss the burden away. Offer a smile instead of lashing out back or even worse, absorbing their pain. You don’t have to say anything. A smile is a shield as well as the most effective way to disarm your attacker.

By making the choice to be kind to unkind people you’re saving the world with small gestures. When can you start your crusade of love? Right now. random-act-of-kindness-11

Oracle card of the week 4/2

There’s much for us to gain this week from divine silence. Naturally when there’s changes on the horizon we look to schedule and to plan. If you’re always taking action you drown out all the information that your inner voice provides. Even if you’re not into traditional forms of meditation this week will provide opportunities for you to create your own regimen.
