What do you love more than your paycheck?

Have you ever noticed that the better things are going the more people tend to criticize you? Especially if you’re finding success in an unconventional way.

I grew up in a family of doctors. Always calculating the perceived most logical pathway to success for me and my brother. Naturally the best possible outcome seemed to be picking a university, a safe major in an in demand field. All seemed fair but what they didn’t calculate was the fact that my talents and passions were in the arts. The equation lead to me flunking out of school. Failing instead of succeeding.

Why is it that we ignore the experiences we’re built for in exchange for the perception of safety? If something is not a fit with your talents, it won’t keep you safe.

Find confidence in doing what you love and the lifestyle you’re born to live will find you.

Happy Mother’s Day! How appropriate that Isis chimes in with another reminder to keep our work and home life in balance. I’m also seeing that those of us that are single and looking for love may find success by pulling ourselves away from the grind and giving ourselves a little TLC. Make it a priority to be in places and with people that bring you happiness and you’ll become a magnet for loving relationships.

Is your meditation practice ineffective? 3 helpful lifestyle tweaks.

Do you find yourself easily distracted during yoga or meditation? In turn leaving you more lacking of the peace you’re in search of? If you’re a beginner this may be just a par for the course. Learning to quiet your mind and embrace the inner stillness is a skill to be mastered just like anything. But a few small considerations may fill the void from your practice?

1. Are there lyrics in your music?: As a writer I often find myself choosing music with eloquent words and enjoying the complexity. However during meditation the story in the song can lead to more monkey mind. Instrumental music with consistent rhythm is usually a better choice for your brain.

2.Are you a caffeine addict?: My morning coffee has become a staple in my practice, but per the standard recommendation more than one cup a day can take a toll on our health and happiness. Remember the key is stillness, not stimulation. Everything in moderation as they say.

3. Do you have a designated space?: We live in a social world, finding true alone time can be almost impossible. Having a designated sanctuary and communicating with your family, roommates or peers that if you’re in this space you’re not to be disturbed is a crucial and powerful move. Decorate it in a way that soothes all your senses. Soon enough you’ll naturally associate this space with a meditative mind and you’ll find yourself easily getting in touch with the peace you deserve.

Like every new skill practice makes perfect but building your peace takes the right tools.

Oracle card of the week 5/7

When you were a child what did you love to do? Chances are you have bills, you may have children and other responsibilities that have you down the path towards the money to cover these things. More often than not as we struggle to attain the money that we think leads to our happiness and the security of everyone we live, we lose ourselves and connection with the people and experiences that matter. Make time for what lights your fire. Being at peace and being fulfilled is more beneficial to you and to others than being rich if you’re stressing yourself to get there.

3 Ways to Instantly soothe Anxiety

anxiety.jpg

Anxiety is running rampant in our generation. We’re constantly buried under the weight of a million choices and it’s manifesting itself physically. It feels like an elephant sitting on your chest shouting at you that you’re not good enough. But you can manage it, and in a pinch you can prevent it from escalating to a panic attack.

  1. The Harmonic Breath: Cover One Nostril, Inhale for 4 seconds, pause, then exhale for 6 seconds. Repeat on the other side. A deep breath sends a signal to your brain that you are safe.
  2. Hug yourself Tight:  The Embrace of a friend or loved one can melt away stress in an instant, but we’re unfortunately not always surrounded by the right people when anxiety rears it’s ugly head. Wrap your arms around yourself and squeeze while taking deep, slow, breaths. The warmth of your own touch creates the same flow of calming oxytocin as cuddling.
  3. Use your 5 senses: Ground yourself by focusing on things that are happening right now. Find one thing you can see, one thing you can hear, one thing you can touch, one thing you can smell, and one thing you can taste.

The brain actually isn’t capable of focusing on more than one thing at a time, hence why in this fast paced world our attempts to do it all we’re seeing a rise of this debilitating state of mind we call anxiety. It takes a long time of consistently choosing to live our lives in a way that doesn’t stretch us too thin to really end it. While we work to find that balance, it’s always important to have weapons in your arsenal to remain triumphant and at peace.

5 Simple Luxuries You Absolutely Deserve

mountain hot tub.jpg

  1. You deserve Alone Time: We’re Social Creatures, but quiet time to clear our minds is essential for us to Survive and Thrive.
  2. You deserve to be Taken Out on Dates: Whether you’re single and looking for true love, or have already found your special someone, being romanced, wined and dined is a perfectly reasonable request. Passionate love affairs don’t begin on the couch. Despite what trends may show.
  3. You deserve bath time to be a spiritual experience: We can’t always afford a trip to the spa, but you deserve to be pampered regularly. Light some candles, put on some soothing music, and fill the tub with fragrant bubbles. You’ll be surprised how simple additions can transform bathing to the oasis you’ve been seeking.
  4. You deserve to Stay Fit: Taking the time to work out is the ultimate investment in yourself. When you look and feel good, you’re naturally more helpful to others. You’re not selfish for setting aside a block of time for your health.
  5. You deserve to Follow you’re dreams: This was a hard one for me. I knew I was a writer my whole life but with the limiting belief that I’d be a “Starving Artist” held me back. For now I still work to cover my bills but I’ve arranged a lifestyle where I have consistent time and a platform to do what I love. Even if your dream isn’t paying you setting a side time to complete one task towards it can make a big difference.                           Thank you for Donating!
